Legislation n. 116 dtd. September, 3rd 2020, which introduces the EU directive 2018/851 on waste and 2018/852 on packaging and packaging waste, provides that producers must indicate the nature of the packaging materials used for all packaging (primary, secondary and tertiary) for the purposes of identification and classification of the packaging in compliance with Commission Decision 97/129/EC.

On November, 21st 2022, the Ministerial Decree n. 360 dtd. September, 28th 2022 was published, which adopts the Guidelines on environmental labelling for the correct fulfilment of the packaging labelling obligations by the responsible subjects. In compliance with the principles of the free movement of goods, the Guidelines underline the possibility of adopting digital channels that can completely replace or integrate the mandatory information to be shown directly on the packaging.
